"Can I ask why you think that? What changed your mind?" Mordred's voice was soft, on the edge of whispering. "You hated me as much as Merlin not that long ago."

"You got a wife and child, not many men can stay evil in a situation like yours" Arthur said crossing his arms.

Mordred laughed, a harsh sound. "That's the only reason?! I would've married sooner if I'd known!" Eyes darkening, he sighed. "I should've known it had nothing to do with me."

Arthur frowned "I did not mean it like that. I meant, well, your a husband and father, and prince...my son. I've missed your life, and treated you unjustly."

"You did miss a lot," Mordred agreed, not bothering to hide the bitterness. "I'm amazed I'm not more of a monster considering everything, not that you know about that. I guess I have Gawain to thank for keeping me sane...or saner than I should've been."

Arthur looked down guiltily at his feet. "I'm sorry Mordred"

Mordred flicked a shadow over to Arthur where it rested briefly on the older man's shoulder. "I won't say it's okay, because it isn't. But I can say that it makes sense. I don't hate you. Why, I don't know, but I don't. And I do want to get along. To be honest, I've..." but his voice trailed away. Emotions weren't something he was good at.

Arthur looks up at Mordred "what is it?"

"Nevermind. Forget it," the young man muttered.

"Mordred, please tell me" Arthur said, staring at hi.

"I...I've always wanted your acceptance. I wanted to be your son, not Lot's. You seemed kinder, more open to people, so when you rejected me..." tears blurred his vision and he subtly used the wind to clear them. "It hurt."

Arthur nodded "i'm so sorry Mordred...I was afraid of what the people would do if they found out about the incest.... I didn't know what to do...then the prophecy came along...i'm sorry, if Icould have changed it I would have"

Mordred just nodded, not trusting himself to respond since his emotions were rising. There was no way he was breaking down in front of the king.

Arthur watched Mordred "it's okay to get upset"

Slowly, hesitantly, Mordred turned to face him. His blue eyes were more unguarded than usual, not enough to show everything, but enough to show the surging emotions: fear, frustration, pain, hope. "I'm-I'm not a demon," he managed.

Arthur closed his eyes "I know you are not" he said opening his eyes.

Mordred nodded once and then turned back to watch the sky. Does Arthur really believe that? He says he does, but words mean little. A breeze mussed his hair and he felt a small smile tug at his lips before reaching out to "stroke" the soothing wind as a thank you.

Arthur looked at Murder and smiled a little "Mordred, this should be a time of happiness. You are married, and your wife has recently given birth to your daughter"

Instantly Mordred's gaze softened as he continued to play with the breeze. "They're my world," he admitted. "I couldn't be prouder or happier than I am with them. Though I'm a bit nervous about being a father. If she's anything like me, Myth and I will be in trouble."

Arthur laughed a little "With her mothers beauty, and your brains, she'll be stealing hearts before she is even old enough to consider marriage"

Mordred groaned playfully. "I'll never be able to keep up with all the offers. Mythian will have a criteria for them and interview each one. Sounds like so much fun."

Arthur smiled "but it'd be worth it to ensure her future, would it not?"

"She gets to choose her future, not me," Mordred shrugged. "I have no intention of setting her life in stone. If she's like me, it'll suit her better."

Arthur looked shocked, this was not how things were done. "Does Lady Mythian know what you plan?"

"We haven't talked about it yet," Mordred sighed. "So I can only hope she agrees. After everything I've seen, I believe it's best if people choose who they want and where they want to go in life instead of listening to their parents' plans."

Arthur nodded and sighed. "Is this thinking from your brother and his wife?"

Mordred smirked. "Not really. That's one thing Gawain and I have always had in common. I've never been too fond of the way classes are set up."

Arthur chuckled "and yet...you married a lady"

"Yeah," Mordred shrugged. "She's a bit different than the typical 'lady' though."

"How so?" Arthur asked, Mythian was good at acting like a proper lady
