Giving her a soft smile, Mordred murmured, "Thank you, my lady."

Mythian laid her head on his shoulder,

Mordred rested his cheek on her head.

Gawain dismounted carefully as he arrived back at Camelot. Several of the guards had decided to show him just how displeased they were with him becoming a knight under King Arthur. With any luck, the bruises would fade quickly. Taking a deep breath, he entered the castle.

Arthur was pacing, what had he done? He had saved a lady of Camelot, thin of that. This is what he told himself.

Spotting his uncle, Gawain made his way over to the older man. "Uncle? Is something bothering you?"

Arthur looked at Gawain "I am glad to see you safe, Did you hear the news?"

"What news?" Gawain asked. "The false messengers you sent out? That I heard."

"It was nit false. I am Mordred's Father"

"You actually claimed Mordred then?" Gawain blinked, surprised. "The country knows?"

Arthur nodded "yes, they know." He said, his eyes sad and empty. "I did not know the woman I was with was Morgous when it happened"

Gawain curled his lip. "I hate that her blood flows in my veins." Bowing low, he said, "I'm so sorry. But thank you for helping my brother. He is grateful, even if he won't say so."

Arthur looked at Gawain "I did it for you, and Mythian, not him."

"Do you hate him that much?" Gawain asked, eyes sad. "Can you blame him for something he had no control over?"

"I suppose not, but I can blame him for the evil he is" Arthur replied.

Gawain's jaw set slightly, but he didn't snap. Instead, he asked, "Why do you call him evil?"

"Because that is what he is, a cruel boy who's married a woman of camelort for an unknown reason" Arthur was looking out at the view.

"It was originally Mythian's idea," Gawain told him with a soft laugh. Expression thoughtful, he leaned against the wall beside his king. "But they do care for each other. Mordred sacrificed his pride to our Mother and became her pawn, if only temporarily, just to keep Mythian safe."

Arthur shook his head "they are using each other, and he wants my throne, he will t to kill me"

"Mordred wants freedom," Gawain disagreed. "He hates being confined. And they aren't using each other. Not anymore. You haven't seen them together. Mordred is...open around her, gentle, caring."

Arthur shook his head "either way, Morgous will make him kill me"

Turning to face his uncle head on, Gawain said, "Morgous removed the ring binding his power. With that out of his way, Mordred has a better chance of resisting. He also managed to convince her to let him and Mythian move to our castle on the sea. If he can master his magic, there's a good chance he'll win." Here came the hard part, the request Mordred had made of him. "But to learn as fast as possible, he'll need a teacher."

"And what teacher does he want?" Arthur asked frowning.

Dropping his gaze, Gawain muttered, "Merlin."

"That is for  Merlin to decide Arthur said looking down-

"Uncle, I..." Gawain started then stopped.

"What is it Gawain?" Arthur asked, looking at the younger man.

Gawain shook his head slowly. "Nothing, my king. Just a naïve wish."

"What is your wish?" Arthur asked.

"A family that doesn't hate each other," Gawain whispered, eyes lowered. "Or at least a chance for Mordred to know even a little about a real family."

"Mordred knows about his family, his mother is evil, most his brothers the same, and the king of Camelot who does not wish to have him" Arthur shook his head looking down.
