Mythian nodded "I believe so, you may go now" she said then reached out and touched his hand, but quickly dropped her hand down into her lap instead, she could see she had irritated him, though she didn't get the same happiness out of that as she usually would have,

Blue eyes fluttering open at her touch, Mordred considered her a moment before rising. "Rest well."

Morning dawned and Mordred dragged himself into the dining hall. The headache that had been absent the day before was back with a vengeance. Vision blurred, he searched for Mythian. They needed to learn how to act as a couple for her father. Even if it was a ruse, it was custom to play the part.

Mythian sat in her usual spot. She was being served by a servant when she spotted Mordrwd. "Mordred, come sit!" She called for him and pointed at a seat across from her.

"Did you sleep well, fair lady?" he asked, voice gentler than usual, almost kind. Watching his brothers court had proven useful. He slid into the chair she'd indicated and motioned for food. "No murders?"

Mythian smirked "not today, and I slept perfectly fine, how did you sleep?" She asked  as a servant served Mordred.she watched Mordred "are you alright? Your being nicer, how is your head?"

"I thought it was calm today. My night was restless," he replied before nodding to dismiss the servant. "Haven't you ever gone through the courting rituals? Ones of our rank always pretend the relationships are real." He eyed the porridge in front of him. "Not very impressive."

Mythian nodded "oh yes, a few times, there were two boys before my late husband, and then my late husband of course, why was your night restless my dear?" She asked reaching across the table and placing her hand over his

Lifting her hand, Mordred brushed his lips across her fingers. "Dreams and a headache," he said as he moved to release her hand. "Nothing to be worried about." The last part was more for himself than for her. Sors. Sors. Fuscus et Rubrum Domina. Fate. Fate. Dark One and Red Lady ((I figured Mythian would have a title. I can change it if you don't like Red Lady.)) What did it mean?

Mythian looked up at Mordred. "You don't look fine, you look ill"

"It's a headache; I doubt there's much to it," Mordred sighed, rubbing his temples before taking a bite of porridge.

Mythian frowned "it has been like this for days...perhaps if I rubbed it for you?" She asked then moved to the seat beside Mordred and stroked his hair across his forehead then his temples lightly.

Her hands felt cool against his skin and he unconsciously leaned into the caress. Something pulsed behind his eyes, but it wasn't painful as it usually was; it was like adrenaline only stronger, hotter, more wild. Across the hall, the flames of the candles shot high into the air, spitting sparks.

Mythian looked at the candles and froze then looked at Mordred then continued to stroke. "Am I putting on a good show?" She asked quietly.

As the flames died down, along with the surprised shrieks, he brought his attention back to her. "It should work." Gaze drifting back to the candles he murmured, "What was that?"

Mythian looked in the direction of the shrieks "I-I don't know" she said nervously.

"Strange," he muttered, before leaning into her hand more. A soft sigh escaped his lips.

Mythian smiled a rare content smile, not a fake one, but a genuine smile of content, she scooted a little closer

"Mythian?" he frowned. "Are you feeling okay? You don't seem like yourself."

Mythian blushed "oh, I'm fine, I uhm, just acting" she decided stroking his cheek.

Mordred studied her, noting the blush. "Are you sure?" he asked, catching her hand. "You're face is red."

Mythian blushed even more "it is not!" She tried to exclaim, and even attempted a scowl, but failed in this.

Frowning, he placed a hand against her forehead. "Well, you don't have a fever," he observed. This close he could smell her perfume and it was gentler than he expected. He pulled back quickly. "Maybe you should see the nurse."

Mythian raised her eyebrow. "Maybe you should, I'm fine, your the one who has a headache, and you didn't go after the incident when I brought you here, or when that man got you with his sword"

Mordred sighed. "Fine. I'll go after classes. Does that please you, m'lady?"

Mythian smiled  a little "I suppose this win will have to  for now"

"I need to stop letting you win," he muttered before rising and giving her hand a quick brush from his lips. "Until I see you again."

The rest of the day blurred together as the pain in his head worsened steadily. Sparring was next to impossible. As distracted as he was, he didn't notice the vast majority of the strange occurrences during his classes; a blast of wind breaking a window, a sword glowing red hot, and more. When the nurse looked him over, she couldn't find anything wrong. All she could suggest was rest.

Exhausted, Mordred retreated to one of the isolated balconies. The wind felt good as it ruffled his dark hair. Too tired to care if his "mask" slipped, he allowed his eyes to close as he leaned back against the rail and lifted his face to the sky. Contentment. Blissful peace.

Mythian had been trying to catch up with Mordred all day to check on him. She felt the odd urge to check on him, and was beginning to panic when she finally found him at a balcony. She smiled a little watching him for a moment then walked over slowly. She lifted her hand up as if she were in some trance, and stroked her fingers down his cheek.

Mordred's eyes fluttered open and met her brown ones. For a brief moment, he left the mask down before putting it back on, but there were cracks he didn't have the energy to notice. "Mythian, what brings you here?"

Mythian awkwardly left her hand on his cheek "I was uhm, checking to see that you were alright" she said shifting her stance then moving her eyes off of Mordred and to the view, she smiled. "It's beautiful m we can see the lake from here...some say a great woman lives in there...lady of the lake"

"I'll be fine," he lied easily. Following her gaze, he smiled wistfully. "I've heard of her. The beautiful woman who gave the King Excalibur, a sword said to have no rival." His voice dropped as he said, "I want to see it. At least once. Just to know if the stories are true, if magic is real."
