Hilly noded and laid back on him

"Thanks, my lady," Gawain yawned. "I'll make it up to you."

Hilly giggled "you always do"

"Good to know." Two minutes later, he was fast asleep.

Mordred watched, expressionless, arms folded, as the rider approached him. He knew those colors: Camelot.

Mythian was behind Mordred a bit, holding Ruth in her arms. "what do you suppose they want?

"I don't know," Mordred replied, eyes never once leaving the rider. "It's been months since our last contact."

Mythian nodded and watched as the rider stopped before him then climbed off his horse and bowed. "His Majesty king arthur has requested your presence, as well as your wife and child's, as soon as you are able to travel."

Mordred blinked and glanced at Mythian before turning back to the messenger. "Did he give you any reason why he wants my presence in his court?"

The man nodded. "Yes, he wants to meet the child, Princess Ruth, and he also wishes to make slight amends"

Mordred's usual calm exterior slipped, displaying his surprise (and a glimpse of hope). Realizing his mistake, he schooled his features into a neutral expression. "When will you be able to travel?" he asked, turning to Mythian.

Mythian shrugged. "I ought to be okay in a few days if we take the carriage"

Nodding, he turned back to the messenger. "Stay the night then return the King Arthur. Tell him that we'll join him in five days."

The man nodded grateful "Thank you your highness"

"You're welcome," Mordred smiled. Dismissing the man, he went inside and headed for the balcony, one of his favorite places to think.

Mythian followed Mordred, but instead of going out with him, she respected his space and sat down on a bench inside to breast feed Ruth

For several long moments, he stood at the railing, eyes locked on the horizon. Make amends? Arthur wants to make amends? That can't be right. But if it is... The surge of hope in his chest hurt and he shoved it away roughly, releasing a blast of wind as a physical representation. Don't you dare, he scolded himself. It's not real. It's not possible.

Mythian watched Mordred through the glass of the balcony. she frowned, she didn't know what to make of his body language.

Slowly, he allowed himself to drop to his knees and rest his forehead against the railing. The hope wouldn't go away. He'd never realized how desperate he was for everything to work until this tiny spark had come and now he couldn't stand the idea of it dying. And yet he knew that if he didn't destroy it, it would hurt even more if it all failed. But he couldn't push it away. He needed it. "Damnit," he cursed. "So much for a black heart."

Mythian finally got worried and got up and went out to her husband, she held RUth closely as she fixed her dress. she moved closer to Mordred "MOrdred...? are you alright?"

Mordred started in surprise. "Myth?" he blinked. "Yeah. I'm fine. Why?"

mythian frowned "I worry about you...you looked upset"

"More surprised than anything," Mordred sighed, gazing back at the sea. "Arthur wanting to make amends, even slight ones? There's no way that's real."

Mythian shrugged :It could be... rumors have spread that my 'good nature' has rubbed off on you"

Mordred gave a short, humorless laugh. "I'm sure that's it." His gaze flickered to her for a moment. "Do me a favor? Make sure I don't get too hopeful?"

Mythian frowned "why should you not be hopeful?"

"If it ends badly, I don't want to break apart," he breathed, almost too quiet to hear. "I can't afford to shatter."

Mythian moved closer and pressed her forehead to his temple "I will not allow you to shatter, You are a strong man"

Mordred turned his head and kissed her cheek. "You have a lot of faith in me, don't you?"

Mythian nodded "yes, I do, how could I not?" She asked kissing him slightly

"Thank you, Red Lady," Mordred smiled. "I'm counting on you."
