Side Event - Camp Cafe

Ashlyn grinned. "It could be a very interesting meal," she added. Curious, she asked, "How did you find out you were allergic to grapes?"

Dylan sighed.

"I was about five or six years old, and I was walking with my mom in the grocery store. We were in the fruit section, and she wasn't paying attention, so I grabbed a grape before she could tell me not to. When she looked back at me, she noticed that I wasn't breathing, and rushed me to the hospital. I was cured of two things that day: grapes, and stealing," she finished with a wistful smile.

"Yikes," Ashlyn shuddered. "I'd be so scared if that happened to me."

Dylan nodded.

"I was. I was crying the entire time. In fact, I was afraid to even go near the fruit section for months after that, until my mom managed to convince me that as long as I stayed away from the grapes I'd be fine."

Ashlyn nodded sympathetically. "What's your family like?" she asked, curious. "Do you have any siblings?"

Dylan thought about what she wanted to say. She had a relatively normal family, and they all got along most of the time, so she didn't really think there was anything particularly interesting about it.

"Um…Well, my mom's Hawaiian, though her family came from China, originally. She's really picky about pretty much everything, and I guess she's kind of a stereotypical Asian mother, in that she wants me to do well in school and everything. My dad's really laid-back. He likes to cook, and he loves his music," she gave a sort of smile as she gestured to her ever-present iPod. "And I've got a little brother, his name is Michael. He's nine, kind of small. The kids at school used to steal his glasses, until he gave one of them a bloody nose by hitting him in the head with a soccer ball. He likes to attack me. And he plays the guitar," she finished thoughtfully.

"Sounds interesting," Ashlyn grinned. "Do you play any instruments? I mean, because you like music."

Dylan shrugged.

"I used to play the piano, but I recently quit. The teacher wasn't working for me," she explained. "But I mostly like listening to music. And making mixes on Garage Band and stuff," she trailed off. "Do you do any music?"

Ashlyn shook her head. "No. I love listening to it, but playing an instrument never really interested me." She smiled sadly. "It's too bad you quit though. I bet you were really good."

Felix lifted his tray from the table at the lewd remark from his fellow campers and looked for a new table. He saw a few empty spaces near Ashlyn, Dylan, and Whitney, and made his way over to their table.
"Do you mind if I sit here?" he asked politely.

"Not at all," Ashlyn smiled. "You're from Ruby right? I don't think we've really met. I'm Ashlyn."

Whitney shook her head no and quickly scooted over to make room for Felix "nope! Sit! Sit!"

"Thank you," Felix smiled as he took a seat. "Yes, I am from Ruby, my name is Felix," he said, setting his tray down and extending his hand for a handshake, "a pleasure to meet you,"

"It's nice to meet you too," Ashlyn replied, taking his hand and giving it a gentle shake. She was grateful there was someone else who shared some of her mannerisms. "How do you like camp so far?"

"Felix is a pretty name! I'm Whitney!" Whitney exclaimed with a bright grin.

"Thank you," Felix said, smiling at Whitney. He contemplated shaking her hand, but decided against it when he saw the mess around her.
"Camp is alright, I mean, it's nice to be out here and relax a bit, but some of my team mates aren't very good company to keep," Felix explained, sheepishly scratching the back of his head.

"Well, you're always welcome to sit with us," Ashlyn told him shyly.

Whitney ate her sandwich, getting it all over her mouth then wiped her mouth with a napkin. she looked at Felix "I saw you before!  Around....somewhere"

"Thank you," Felix said to Ashlyn, offering a slightly weak smile.
"Yeah, we were competing in the obstacle course," Felix said to Whitney, trying to jog her memory.

"I thought I'd recognized you," Ashlyn nodded, more to herself than the others. Offering Felix a smile, she asked, "Where're you from?"
