Piecing it Back Together

Plot

Many years ago, a great evil tried to destroy the world. Light and Dark worked together creating a pair of butterfly swords that were used in a ritual at the Temple of Hermes (god of boundaries). This ritual asked for a sacrifice to take the great evil and trap it in a realm of darkness and no life. E.g. a life for a life. After it was banished, the Light and Dark took the directions for the ritual and the butterfly swords split them into pieces and separated them. One piece of the directions (the beginning) and the blade and handle of the "left hand sword" were given to the Light. One piece of the directions (the end) and the hilt and handle of the "right hand sword" were given to the Dark. One piece of the directions (the middle) and the missing hilt and blade were hidden in a third spot, which the exact location became lost to all.

Over the years, all of this was forgotten. However, the Councils of the Light and Dark remember what was left behind and the warning that the great evil could rise again.

And now, the warning signs that have been passed down for generations to the Councils were appearing over and over. So they conferred and chose two individuals -- one from each faction -- to recreate the past and seal the great evil again.
