It's the second after midnight
But the clock just misses a beat
Though I have not heard it twelve times
Only eleven

Just a second after midnight
The clock has reached the top
It hasn't stopped with its ticking
But the sound is all wrong

Not enough times
But there's nothing I can do
Twelve times it should echo through the room
But it only managed eleven
